League recap: Carver tops North Surry to extend winning streak

2A Conference 7 recap October 22, 2013

Carver extended the longest winning streak in 2A Conference 7 this week by beating North Surry, 21-7. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.

Surry Central took down South Stokes 24-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.

West Stokes's Alex Manley and Ricky Kirchenbauer have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Manley has thrown for 748 yards this season, while Kirchenbauer has 27 catches for 362 yards. Jaquan Martin from the Sauras leads the league in rushing with 893 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Carver takes on Forbush. At the moment, Germane Crowell's team is in first, while the Falcons are in fourth.

There should be lots of points scored when the Wildcats and South Stokes face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, West Stokes comes in having scored 169 this season, while Jonathan Frasher's team has scored 193. Jimmy Upchurch's team scored 27 points last week as it beat Forbush.

The Greyhounds made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,268 from 7,777. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 21-7 victory over North Surry last week.
