Softball Game Recap: Woonsocket Villa Novans vs. St. Raphael Academy Saints

Woonsocket extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-3 in the process. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 15-0 to the St. Raphael Academy Saints, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Villa Novans of the 10-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2015.

As for St. Raphael Academy, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs this season.

For St. Raphael Academy's part, Emma Martin made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Martin was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Jaliyah De Los Santos was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. Sophie Roman was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Woonsocket didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 15-0 defeat against Lincoln on the 11th. As for St. Raphael Academy, they have also already played their next match, a 3-0 win against Johnston on the 21st.
