Softball Recap: Belleville West Victorious

Belleville West had lost three games straight , but after bumping their record up to 8-8 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. They won by a run and slipped past the Red Bud Musketeers 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Maroons have posted since March 25th.

Kara Kramer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, Belleville West's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Caleigh Dashner, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave Dashner a new career-high.

As for Red Bud, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-6. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Red Bud's side, Ava Wagner made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. Wagner has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.

Looking ahead, Belleville West will head out to challenge O'Fallon at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.24 runs per game on average), something the Maroons will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Red Bud, they will be playing at home against Wesclin at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in the Musketeers' favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while the Warriors have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
