Baseball Game Preview: Great Oak Wolfpack vs. Murrieta Valley Nighthawks

For the second straight game, Great Oak will face off against Murrieta Valley. The Wolfpack will face off against the Nighthawks at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.

Great Oak is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 12-3 margin over Murrieta Valley on Wednesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Wolfpack needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Wes Shanabarger was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Shanabarger was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

In other pitching news, Great Oak got a great performance from Riley Kronenfeld as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Kronenfeld also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Wolfpack are 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-9 otherwise.

Back at the plate, Logan Washizaki was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Great Oak is 2-1 when Washizaki posts two or more runs, but 3-9 otherwise. Jaxon Valenzuela also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Great Oak's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-10. As for Murrieta Valley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season.
