Hononegah extended their winning streak to eight on Friday, bumping their season record up to 11-1 in the process. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Guilford Vikings. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.
Irelyn O'Brian and Zoie Calhoun made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, O'Brian pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Calhoun pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. O'Brian has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, O'Brian went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Calhoun got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run. Those three hits gave O'Brian a new career-high.
In other batting news, Addison Hulburt was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and one run. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mali McMaster, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Hononegah kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matchups.
As for Guilford, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. Their defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.
On Guilford's side, they saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Amiyah Wyrick, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Looking ahead, Hononegah will look to defend their home field on Monday against Freeport at 5:00 p.m. The timing is sure in the Indians' favor as the team sits on 18 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while the Pretzels have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. As for Guilford, they will venture away from home to take on Rockford East at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The E-Rabs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.5 runs per game on average), something the Vikings will no doubt try to take advantage of.
