Basketball Recap: Central Falls Takes a Loss

Central Falls was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 59-58 heartbreaker at the hands of the Times Squared Academy Eagles. If the Warriors were looking for revenge after losing 61-51 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

When it comes to explaining why Central Falls lost, don't look at Jamilson De Pina Almeida. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 22 points and 21 boards. The matchup was De Pina Almeida's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Rafael Borges was another key player, putting up ten points and six rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Times Squared Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Yomy Garcia, who posted 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Urey, who earned 14 points.

Central Falls' defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Times Squared Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Central Falls will head out to face off against North Providence at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. North Providence will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Central Falls surely won't give up without a fight. As for Times Squared Academy, they are taking a road trip to challenge Mt. Hope at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
