For the first time this season, Valley will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Derry Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Valley was able to grind out a solid win over Hampton, taking the game 5-2.
Julian Danko was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Nikolas Heakins was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He also brought in an RBI, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Benjamine Mehalick, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Derry didn't have quite enough to beat Mt. Pleasant on Thursday and fell 8-7.
Like Valley, Derry also got a great game from a two-way player: Max Doherty. He pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Doherty was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Jon Wasnick made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Anthony Sacco was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Derry's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.
Valley beat Derry 9-6 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will Valley repeat their success, or does Derry has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
