Soccer Recap: Mt. Vernon Comes Up Short

Mt. Vernon was the 3-1 winner over Carterville when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Rams fell 5-3 to the Lions on Wednesday. That's two games in a row now that Mt. Vernon have lost by exactly two goals.

Mt. Vernon is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-9. As for Carterville, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mt. Vernon will host Centralia at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mt. Vernon will be up against Centralia's rather soft defense (which has allowed 3.59 goals per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Carterville, they will welcome Freeburg at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Carterville's defense better be ready for this one: Freeburg have averaged an impressive 3.6 goals per game this season.
