Softball Recap: Pioneer Takes a Loss

After flying high against Del Mar last Wednesday, Pioneer came back down to earth. Pioneer fell just short of the Lincoln Lions by a score of 6-4 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Mustangs have suffered since March 28, 2024.

Olivia Krump was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Maya Salles-Cunha also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Even though they lost, Pioneer hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in five consecutive matchups.

Pioneer's defeat was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Lincoln, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-3.

Coming up, Pioneer will challenge Evergreen Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lincoln, they will face off against Silver Creek at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
