Cypress Bay took a three-set loss the last time they faced off against Cardinal Gibbons, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Lightning won by a set and slipped past the Chiefs 2-1. The victory was nothing new for the Lightning as they're now sitting on five straight.

Sophia Guzman paced Cypress Bay's offense, picking up ten kills. Guzman got some help from Erin Huang and her 13 assists. Guzman also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Anya Noya, each putting up four.

Despite the loss, Cardinal Gibbons still got an impressive performance from Avery Paton, who had 16 digs and three aces. Paton has been hot recently, having posted ten or more digs the last three times she's played.

Cypress Bay's win bumped their record up to 11-6. As for Cardinal Gibbons, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-11.

Cypress Bay has already played their next match, a 2-0 defeat against St. Thomas Aquinas on the 30th. As for Cardinal Gibbons, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 victory against Basilica on the 1st.
