Baseball Recap: Rangely Comes Up Short

Rangely extended their losing streak to 11 on Saturday, dropping them down to 1-13. They lost 9-0 to the Monte Vista Pirates. Considering the last time the Panthers couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.

As for Monte Vista, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 17-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average this season.

For Monte Vista's part, Kobe Jiron and Michael Hensley did most of the damage at the plate: Jiron got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Hensley got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. Those two stolen bases gave Hensley a new career-high. Connor Mellott was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Rangely will face off against Meeker at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cowboys have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Monte Vista, they will take on Trinidad at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Miners have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.75 runs per game on average), something the Pirates will no doubt try to take advantage of.
