Basketball Game Preview: Christ the King Crusaders vs. Greater Cabarrus S Stallions

The Christ the King Crusaders will face off against the Greater Cabarrus S Stallions at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Christ the King has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since January 21.

Christ the King is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Lincoln Charter on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Christ the King came up short against Lincoln Charter, falling 87-64. While losing is never fun, the Crusaders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 400th, while the Eagles are ranked 94th).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Greater Cabarrus S, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They strolled past Charlotte Elite Academy with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 63-49.

Greater Cabarrus S's win came from a few key players Christ the King will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Xavier DeLeeuw, who posted 15 points. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashton Arrowood, who earned 15 points.

Greater Cabarrus S is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.4 points over those games. As for Christ the King, their loss dropped their record down to 7-15.

Christ the King couldn't quite finish off Greater Cabarrus S when the teams last played back in February of 2024 and fell 61-59. Can Christ the King avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
