Baseball Recap: Brandeis Wins Going Away Against Harlan

Brandeis had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They put the hurt on the Harlan Hawks with a sharp 9-1 victory on Friday. Considering the Broncos have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Tj Byrd spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Tanner Hallmark and Grayson Hallmark did most of the damage at the plate: Tanner went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Grayson went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That's the most hits Grayson has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Ty Jeter, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

The win made it two in a row for Brandeis and bumps their season record up to 19-6-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Harlan, they now have a losing record of 15-16.

Looking ahead, Brandeis will challenge Westlake on Thursday. Harlan does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
