Football Game Preview: Stearns Minutemen vs. Sacopee Valley Hawks

The Stearns Minutemen will head out on the road to face off against the Sacopee Valley Hawks at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Stearns is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: Spruce Mountain, who was ranked fourth at the time (Stearns was ranked fifth). The Minutemen fell 28-24 to the Phoenix on Saturday. The Minutemen's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, while Sacopee Valley put up plenty of points on Saturday, the same can't be said for Mount View. The Hawks took their matchup with ease, bagging a 51-0 victory over the Mustangs. The game marked the Hawks' most dominant win of the season.

Stearns better keep an eye on Gage Wilson. He was instrumental in Sacopee Valley's win, rushing for 130 yards and four scores on only nine carries, while also catching one touchdown. Those 130 rushing yards gave Wilson a new career-high.

Sacopee Valley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 290 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Sacopee Valley and bumps their season record up to 4-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 48.5 points over those games. As for Stearns, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-2.
