Baseball Recap: Independence Takes a Loss

Independence extended their losing streak to eight on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-9. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Washington Rams. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, the Patriots couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Washington, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-6. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games.

For Washington's part, Jonathan Martinez Luna and Rylan Evans did most of the damage at the plate: Martinez Luna got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs, while Evans went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Evans a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dustin Lugo, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Independence has already played their next matchup, a 14-1 defeat against La Joya Community on the 6th. As for Washington, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 23-1 loss against Copper Canyon on the 6th.
