GLENDALE, Ariz. - After trading leads three times,
Mesquite (Gilbert, Ariz.) snatched the lead for good when
Jake Garnica ran for a touchdown in the third quarter, paving the way for victory over
Cactus (Glendale, Ariz.) 49-35.
After nabbing the lead on a
Kolbe Poarch touchdown pass to
Paul Perry, the Cobras went into halftime with a 20-8 lead. The Wildcats took the lead for good with a touchdown run by Garnica in the third quarter.
Cactus expanded its lead to 27 points entering the fourth quarter. CHS scored two times in the third, including once on an
Airic Cortez touchdown run.
Mesquite's standout player in the win was Poarch. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown and kicked one extra point.
The defeat comes as a step back for Cactus, which notched a 59-12 victory over Independence in its previous outing.
