Softball Recap: Salinas Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Saint Francis, Salinas was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Monterey Toreadors by a score of 4-1. The win continues a trend for the Cowboys in their matchups with the Toreadors: they've now won three in a row.

Bella Machuca spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Yareli Alcaraz was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and two doubles. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Isabella Hernandez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs.

Salinas' victory bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Monterey, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-5.

Salinas and Monterey should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Cowboys (ranked 77th) will meet Pleasant Grove (ranked 350th) at 8:00 a.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Monterey will square off against Watsonville at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (130 vs. 678).
