Baseball Game Preview: Edgar Wildcats vs. Marathon Red Raiders

For the second straight game, Edgar will face off against Marathon. The Wildcats will challenge the Red Raiders at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. Edgar is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.

Edgar made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Marathon, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Wildcats blew past the Red Raiders 10-4 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Wildcats have posted against the Red Raiders since May 6, 2021.

Jase Apfelbeck made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Apfelbeck was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sawyer Weiland, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Dakota Ellenbecker also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Edgar's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average this season. As for Marathon, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-2 record.
