The Schuylkill Haven Hurricanes will face off against the Oley Valley Lynx at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Schuylkill Haven is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
Schuylkill Haven barely beat Minersville the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Hurricanes put the hurt on the Battlin' Miners with a sharp 10-3 victory on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Hurricanes considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Allison Scherer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Teagan Wehr and Emmie Scherer did most of the damage at the plate: Wehr went 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and one stolen base, while Emmie got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. What's more, Wehr posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Ally Becker, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Oley Valley came up short against Schuylkill Valley on Wednesday, falling 9-2. The Lynx have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Oley Valley saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ava Walters, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
Schuylkill Haven is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Oley Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.
Oley Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Schuylkill Haven has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Oley Valley, though, as they've been averaging only 3.7 strikeouts. Will Schuylkill Haven keep running through batters, or will the Lynx buck the trend?
Schuylkill Haven took their victory against Oley Valley in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 12-3 score. Will the Hurricanes repeat their success, or do the Lynx have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
