Baseball Game Preview: Mathews Blue Devils vs. West Point Pointers

The Mathews Blue Devils will head out on the road to take on the West Point Pointers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Mathews is looking for their season's first victory.

Mathews is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They took a 16-12 hit to the loss column at the hands of Northampton on Friday.

Meanwhile, West Point beat Thomas Jefferson 6-3 on Monday.

Blake Keefe made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Keefe was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of West Point's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-9 when he doesn't).

Keefe wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Waylon Foster, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

West Point's win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-9. As for Mathews, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-11.

Mathews suffered a grim 14-2 defeat to West Point in their previous meeting last Tuesday. Can the Blue Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
