Baseball Recap: Willowbrook Takes a Loss

If Willowbrook was riding high fresh off their 16-1 takedown of Proviso West last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Warriors fell just short of the Downers Grove South Mustangs by a score of 8-6 on Monday. The Warriors have struggled against the Mustangs recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Noah Edison was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jake Bonino made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Sam Marrese, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.

Willowbrook's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 9-4. As for Downers Grove South, they pushed their record up to 4-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Willowbrook beat the Mustangs by a score of 6-3 on Tuesday.
