Merced strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They claimed a resounding 49-14 victory over the Atwater Falcons. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Bears' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 110th, while the Falcons are ranked 375th).
Merced's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Vicente Cortez, who threw for 160 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 13 passes, and also punched in one score on the ground.
