Basketball Game Preview: Boiling Springs Bulldogs vs. James F. Byrnes Rebels

Boiling Springs hasn't had much luck against James F. Byrnes recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Boiling Springs Bulldogs will face off against the James F. Byrnes Rebels at 6:00 p.m.

Boiling Springs is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Riverside on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Boiling Springs was outmatched by Riverside and fell 68-38. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while the Warriors are ranked 20th).

Despite the loss, Boiling Springs had strong showings from Brynn Tipton, who posted 11 points and four steals, and Makenzie Kinard, who went 7 of 17 on her way to 20 points and four steals. That was a full 52.6% of Boiling Springs' points, marking the 13th time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but James F. Byrnes ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged Dorman out 66-63. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Rebels have posted against the Cavaliers since January 29, 2021.

James F. Byrnes has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.7 points over those games. As for Boiling Springs, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-15.

Boiling Springs took a serious blow against James F. Byrnes in their previous meeting back in January, falling 72-27. Can Boiling Springs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
