Basketball Game Preview: Mira Mesa Marauders vs. Mission Bay Buccaneers

Having just played yesterday, the Mira Mesa Marauders will head out on the road to face off against the Mission Bay Buccaneers at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Mira Mesa knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Mission Bay likes a good challenge.

On Friday, Mira Mesa was able to grind out a solid win over Coronado, taking the game 67-60. Given the Marauders' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 140th, while the Islanders are ranked 587th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Mission Bay's strategy against La Jolla on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Mission Bay blew La Jolla out of the water with a 72-27 final score. The Buccaneers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 contests by 20 points or more this season.

Mission Bay has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.7 points over those games. As for Mira Mesa, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-4.

Mira Mesa suffered a grim 72-50 defeat to Mission Bay when the teams last played back in December of 2017. Can Mira Mesa avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
