Softball Game Preview: Valley Vikings vs. Belen Eagles

The Valley Vikings will head out on the road to square off against the Belen Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Valley has four straight wins, Belen has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Valley barely beat Manzano the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Valley was the clear victors by a 17-6 margin over Manzano on Tuesday. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Alexus Zubia made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Zubia was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Aleyah Lucero was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. Liliana Roybal was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .614. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Belen didn't have quite enough to beat Capital on Saturday and fell 6-4.

Valley's record now sits at 4-1. As for Belen, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Valley couldn't quite get it done against Belen in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 6-2. Can Valley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
