Recap: Wabasha-Kellogg Falcons vs. Schaeffer Academy Lions
The Wabasha-Kellogg Falcons lost against the Schaeffer Academy Lions back in February, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Wabasha-Kellogg fell just short of Schaeffer Academy by a score of 45-42. Wabasha-Kellogg has struggled against Schaeffer Academy recently, as their contest on Saturday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Wabasha-Kellogg lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ileana DeAngel, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. DeAngel scored a full 33.3% of Wabasha-Kellogg's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brielle Adams, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds.
Even though they lost, Wabasha-Kellogg were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Schaeffer Academy found their leader in underclassman Lillian Morrisey, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds. Morrisey is absolutely dominating the block category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Winona Morgan, who scored five points along with 11 rebounds.
Wabasha-Kellogg's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Schaeffer Academy, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wabasha-Kellogg will challenge Chatfield at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Chatfield presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Wabasha-Kellogg in Minnesota (Chatfield is ranked 150th, while Wabasha-Kellogg is ranked 329th). Schaeffer Academy is on the road again on Monday and play against Kingsland at 6:00 p.m. on December 11th.
