Soccer Recap: Mathews Comes Up Short

Mathews was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against the West Point Pointers, falling 8-0. While losing is never fun, Mathews can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 274th, while West Point are ranked 113th).

Mathews' loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 3-4. As for West Point, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mathews will host Middlesex at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for West Point, they will welcome Gloucester at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
