Baseball Recap: Auburn Comes Up Short

Auburn extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping them down to 9-10. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Routt Catholic Rockets. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rockets apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Peyton Campbell made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Auburn's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 5-9 when he doesn't). Tucker Dennis was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

As for Routt Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 15-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 16th.

On Routt Catholic's side, Jonas Brown looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Talon Thompson, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted over his last ten games. Another player making a difference was Samuel Long, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Auburn will host PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bluejays will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight. As for Routt Catholic, they will welcome Pittsfield at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rockets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Saukees have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season.
