Baseball Recap: Murrieta Mesa Starts Season with Victory Against Elsinore

Murrieta Mesa had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Everything went their way against the Elsinore Tigers on Thursday as the Murrieta Mesa Rams made off with an 8-1 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Rams have posted since March 4, 2024.

Cooper Child made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Child was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Zach Janczyk and JD Nelson did most of the damage at the plate: Janczyk scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Nelson scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Mason Freedman, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Murrieta Mesa hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elsinore struck out eight times.

Elsinore's loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Murrieta Mesa didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 13-2 victory against Banning on the 22nd. As for Elsinore, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Tigers face off against the Wildcats at 10:30 a.m. on March 1st.
