Softball Game Preview: Scituate Spartans vs. Portsmouth Patriots

The Scituate Spartans will take on the Portsmouth Patriots at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Scituate will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

Scituate is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came out on top against Mt. Hope by a score of 10-5 on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Huskies: they've now won six in a row.

Victoria Geisser was incredible, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lily Maggiacomo, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Scituate lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Portsmouth lost 13-3 to Ludlowe on Saturday.

Barbara Rainey was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Those stolen bases were her first of the season.

Portsmouth's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Scituate, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Scituate hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Portsmouth struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Scituate came up short against Portsmouth in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 8-4. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
