Football Preview: Burney Raiders vs. Chester Volcanoes

The Burney Raiders will face off against the Chester Volcanoes at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Burney is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 40 points two weeks ago, they were much more limited against Hayfork on Friday. They had to suffer through a 54-6 loss at the hands of the Timberjacks.

Meanwhile, while Chester put up plenty of points on Friday, the same can't be said for Happy Camp. Chester blew past Happy Camp, posting a 64-0 victory on the road. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Volcanoes.

Chester can attribute much of their success to Grady Oswold, who rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown, and Patrick Gerbatz, who rushed for 78 yards and three touchdowns on only five carries. Peyton Jensen was in the mix as well, providing Chester with three touchdowns.

Chester's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged two passes before it was all said and done. Jensen picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown.

Burney's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Chester, their win bumped their record up to 2-0.

Burney didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Chester in their previous matchup back in October of 2023, but they still walked away with an 18-12 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Burney since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
