Basketball Game Preview: Mitchell Mustangs vs. Wiregrass Ranch Bulls

The Mitchell Mustangs will head out to square off against the Wiregrass Ranch Bulls at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Mitchell will head into Tuesday's matchup having proved themselves against Fivay: Mitchell took a 35-point defeat the last time they faced off against Fivay, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Mitchell skirted past Fivay 48-45. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 150th, while the Falcons are ranked 330th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Wiregrass Ranch didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Land O' Lakes on Tuesday, but they still walked away with a 45-39 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulls.

Mitchell is also on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.0 points per game. As for Wiregrass Ranch, their record now sits at 9-7.

Mitchell didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Wiregrass Ranch in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, but they still walked away with a 41-36 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mitchell since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
