Baseball Recap: Pilgrim Victorious

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Pilgrim and Cranston East meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. The Patriots' pitchers stepped up to hand the Thunderbolts a 3-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 7-2 on Wednesday.

Tyler Boudreau looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Pilgrim's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Wellington, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one stolen base. Wellington is becoming a predictor of the Patriots' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 5-9 when he doesn't).

Pilgrim's win bumped their record up to 7-10. As for Cranston East, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-14.

Coming up, Pilgrim will challenge Cumberland at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cranston East, they will face off against Johnston at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
