Baseball Recap: Larkin Royals vs. Elgin Maroons
Larkin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 14th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Elgin Maroons. The Royals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Maroons apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Antonio Ventura was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Ventura was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Adrian Gasca made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Phoenix Rivera also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Larkin's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Elgin, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Looking ahead, Larkin will head out on the road to take on Metea Valley at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Metea Valley's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Larkin's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Elgin, they will be playing at home against Wheeling at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
