Basketball Recap: James River Makes It Seven in a Row at Home

James River hadn't done well against Alleghany recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The James River Knights secured a 42-37 W over the Alleghany Cougars. This was a revenge game for the Knights: when they faced off against the Cougars back in January, they had to take a 62-54 loss.

Despite the loss, Alleghany still got an impressive performance from Bryce Leitch, who went 6-for-13 en route to 17 points. That was a full 45.9% of Alleghany's points, marking the 19th time in a row Leitch has posted more than a third of the team's points. Ja'Kara Heighter was another key player, putting up nine points.

James River's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-3. As for Alleghany, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 14-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. James River will welcome Floyd County at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Floyd County will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something James River surely won't give up without a fight. As for Alleghany, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Cougars face off against the Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
