One team took the elevator way up and another took it way down in the power rankings this week. We'll tackle all that (plus a new number one team) in this week's report.
Welcome
The power rankings welcomes a newcomer to the scene as Biddeford earned the 18th spot after its strong showing last week. It breezed past Greely with a final score of 36 - 6. At 30 points, that marked Biddeford's largest margin of victory so far this year.
No Stoppin 'Em
Given its edge in the MaxPreps state rankings, a win looked likely for Brunswick in its matchup against Lawrence. The team got that and then some. Brunswick had all the answers against Lawrence, winning 55 - 28. The Lawrence defense has struggled this season (giving up an average of 30 points per game), and Brunswick took advantage of that. At 83 total points, this was the highest scoring power ranking game of the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of last week's main attractions was the confrontation between Leavitt and Fryeburg, 4th and 7th in the power rankings, respectively. Leavitt wasn't able to scrape together any points, falling to Fryeburg 13 - 0. Despite the defeat, Leavitt maintained its position in the power rankings.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between Falmouth (13th in the power rankings) and Kennebunk (1st). The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both Kennebunk and Falmouth put up some lofty point totals in their previous games, so things might heat up even more when they play one another this week.
