Baseball Game Preview: Cedarville Pirates vs. Mountainburg Dragons

The Cedarville Pirates will venture away from home to square off against the Mountainburg Dragons at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Cedarville has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with five straight losses, while Mountainburg will come in with five straight victories.

Friday just wasn't the day for Cedarville's offense. They came up short against Lamar on Friday, falling 10-0.

Meanwhile, Mountainburg never let their opponents score on Friday. Everything went their way against Alpena as they made off with a 14-0 win. Considering the Dragons have won seven games by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Ryan Allen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Mountainburg got a big performance out of Levi Cowett, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Cowett has posted since back in April of 2024. Bryson Quinalty was another key player, going 1-for-3 with four RBI.

Cedarville's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Mountainburg, their record now sits at 10-4.

Cedarville suffered a grim 18-8 defeat to Mountainburg in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Pirates avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
