Softball Recap: Lakewood Cougars vs. Burlington-Edison Tigers
It was a proper cat-fight when Lakewood challenged Burlington-Edison on Thursday. The Cougars fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 6-5. The Cougars haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Katie Krueger was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Krueger wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Karly Stewart, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Emma Tocco was another, getting on base in both of her plate appearances with two runs.
Lakewood's defeat dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Burlington-Edison, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-6-1.
Looking ahead, Lakewood will venture away from home to square off against Bellingham at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Cougars are facing the Bayhawks at the right time seeing as the Bayhawks are stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Burlington-Edison, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lynden at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers will need to watch out since the Lions have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups.
