Volleyball Recap: Wayland Academy Big Red vs. Palmyra-Eagle Panthers

Wayland Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 13th straight loss. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Palmyra-Eagle Panthers. The Big Red were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2019.

Reina Schroeckenthaler paced Wayland Academy's offense, picking up ten kills. Schroeckenthaler got some help from Ella Kikkert and her 16 assists. Finally, Alayna Quest kept Wayland Academy's defense grounded, leading the team with four blocks.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Palmyra-Eagle to victory, but perhaps none more so than Briahna Covarrubias, who had 14 digs. Covarrubias has been hot, having posted 11 or more digs the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Madeline Geppert, who had 16 assists and two aces.

Wayland Academy's loss dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Palmyra-Eagle, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-6.

Wayland Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 3-0 defeat against Lourdes on the 23rd. As for Palmyra-Eagle, they have also already played their next matchup, a 2-0 loss against St. Ambrose Academy on the 20th.
