Shelbyville hasn't had much luck against Greenfield-Central recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Golden Bears will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. Shelbyville will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Shelbyville let Rushville stack five runs on them in the second inning on Saturday but luckily Shelbyville prevailed anyway. The Golden Bears came out on top against the Lions by a score of 10-7.
Reece Prickett made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Shelbyville let Dalton Jones and Grantland Fitzgerald run wild. Jones went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Fitzgerald went 3-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits Fitzgerald has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brayden Smith, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Shelbyville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .522. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rushville only posted an OBP of .300.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 14 runs the game before, Greenfield-Central was a bit more limited in their game on Saturday. They lost 9-2 to Guerin Catholic.
Shelbyville's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-7. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Greenfield-Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-10.
Shelbyville beat Greenfield-Central 3-0 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Golden Bears repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
