Basketball Recap: Caroline Meaney's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Ashley over Topsail

Ashley lost against Topsail last Tuesday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Ashley Screaming Eagle fell to the Topsail Pirates 38-33.

Several Screaming Eagle players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Caroline Meaney, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds. Meaney is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 63% in the last three games she's played. Jaeden Hudson was another key player, putting up ten points and six boards.

Topsail's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Riley Trimble, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Ava Kita, who posted six points along with eight steals and six boards.

Ashley has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-15 record this season. Topsail is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season.

Ashley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Topsail, they are taking a road trip to square off against New Hanover at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. New Hanover is on a three-game streak of home wins, Topsail a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
