Basketball Recap: Grandview's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

Grandview dropped down to 4-2 on Saturday, ending the team's four-game streak of wins. The contest between the Wolves and the Chaparral Wolverines didn't end well, with the Wolves falling 64-50. While losing is never fun, the Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 47th, while the Wolverines are ranked second).

Despite the loss, Grandview still got an impressive performance from Ismael Kabongo, who went 5-for-7 en route to 13 points along with five assists and three steals. Kabongo is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 71% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Charlie Atkinson, who posted 12 points.

As for Chaparral, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 70.8 points this season.

Luke Howery was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 27 points and 11 rebounds. What's more, he also posted a 73% shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in January. Champ Spears was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Coming up, Grandview will be home for the holidays to greet Castle View at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Wolves will be up against the Sabercats' rather soft defense (which has allowed 59 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. Chaparral will take on Valley Christian in a holiday battle at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wolverines will need to watch out since the Trojans have now posted at least 55 points in their last five games.
