Preview: Briar Woods Falcons vs. Lightridge Bolts

The Briar Woods Falcons will head out on the road to face off against the Lightridge Bolts at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Briar Woods will be strutting in after a victory while Lightridge will be coming in after a defeat.

Last Friday, Briar Woods got themselves on the board against Potomac Falls, but Potomac Falls never followed suit. They blew past the Panthers, posting a 28-0 victory on the road. Given Briar Woods' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 31st, while Potomac Falls is ranked 114th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Briar Woods' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brady Carmical, who threw for 284 yards and four touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes. Colin Capistrant did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 144 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Briar Woods' defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB six times. Leading the way was Stephen Wyviorka and his two sacks.

Meanwhile, Lightridge fell victim to Stone Bridge's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They took a serious blow against the Bulldogs, falling 63-0. Lightridge was already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.

Briar Woods has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in six of their first seven games, giving them a 6-1 record. As for Lightridge, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 4-3.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday' match: Briar Woods has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 183.1 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Lightridge, though, as they've been averaging only 42 per game. How will Lightridge fare against such a dominant running game?
