Softball Recap: Johnsburg Falls to Wauconda in First Game of Season

Johnsburg unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Wauconda Bulldogs by a score of 7-5 on Monday. The Skyhawks haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Joree Tibbs spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up seven Ks. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Sarah Nethaway was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Kayla Riener was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

Coming up, Johnsburg will challenge Grant Community at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Wauconda, they will head out to face off against Jacobs at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
