Softball Recap: Wheeling's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Wheeling waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 15-11 win over the Elgin Maroons.

The team relied heavily on Katie Moser, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. That stolen base was her first of the season. Alaina Costello was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-5.

Moser wasn't the only one making solid contact: Wheeling kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive games.

Wheeling now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Elgin, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.

The future could be bright for both Wheeling and Elgin: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. The Wildcats will look to extend Hoffman Estates' four-game losing streak when they meet at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Elgin will try to hand Waukegan their fourth-straight loss when the two meet at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
