Basketball Game Preview: Trinidad Miners vs. Creede Miners

Trinidad will square off against Creede at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Trinidad had to skate by with only a three-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 44-point drubbing they dealt Antonito on Monday. Trinidad blew past Antonito, posting a 67-23 victory. That 44 point margin sets a new team best for the Miners this season.

Nathan Sandoval was the offensive standout of the game as he posted 18 points. Isaiah Moreno was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Meanwhile, Creede beat Antonito 38-26 on Saturday. The win continues a trend for the Miners in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won three in a row.

Creede's win came from a few key players Trinidad will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jaxson Fazio, who on his way to 16 points in addition to three steals and three blocks. He has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last nine times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlie Fairchild, who put up nine points and seven steals.

Creede's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-12. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.7 points over those games. As for Trinidad, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 8-13.
