Softball Recap: Clovis Takes a Loss

Clovis extended their losing streak to 13 on Friday, dropping them down to 3-19. They lost 14-4 to the Carlsbad Cavemen. Unfortunately, that's the fourth time they've come up short against the Cavemen this season, with their most recent defeat being a 15-0 loss on Friday.

As for Carlsbad, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-11. Considering they have won seven games by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

For Carlsbad's part, Katrina Ortega made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Ortega has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Carlsbad got a massive performance out of Anya Rentner, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs Rentner has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Makayla Chester, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Clovis will take on rival Hobbs at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Carlsbad is set to face off against their familiar foe Roswell at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
