Volleyball Recap: St. Mary's-Colgan Extends Winning Streak to Three

St. Mary's-Colgan waltzed into their match on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 2-0 win over the Cherryvale Chargers. The Panthers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Chargers, too.

The 2-0 score doesn't show just how dominant St. Mary's-Colgan was: they took both sets by at least 14 points. The final score came out to 25-11, 25-10.

Bella Ascanio paced St. Mary's-Colgan's offense, picking up ten kills. Ascanio got some help from Izzy Tierney and her 14 assists. Tierney and Ascanio didn't slow down when it came to serving: they led the team with two apiece.

St. Mary's-Colgan's victory bumped their record up to 16-14. As for Cherryvale, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-22-4 record this season.

Coincidentally, St. Mary's-Colgan and Cherryvale will both be playing Jayhawk Linn the next time they take the court. The Panthers will host the Jayhawks at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Chargers will play them later in the day, at 12:00 p.m.
