Softball Recap: Maine West Gets the Win

Maine West won the last time they faced Niles West and things went their way on Thursday too. The Warriors came out on top against the Wolves by a score of 6-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Warriors.

KAITLYN MARSH spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on ALONDRA CONTRERAS, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-3. Those home runs marked the first that she has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of KARA LINDENMUTH, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Maine West lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Maine West's record now sits at 8-1. As for Niles West, they dropped their record down to 6-9 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Maine West will face off against Prospect at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Niles West, they will square off against Evanston at 4:45 p.m. on Friday.
