Recap: Spackenkill Spartans vs. Saugerties Sawyers
The Spackenkill Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They suffered a rough 52-31 defeat at the hands of Saugerties. While losing is never fun, Spackenkill can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 417th, while Saugerties is ranked 143rd).
Despite the loss, Spackenkill still got an impressive performance from Marlena Delaurentis, who scored eight points.
Saugerties was led to victory by Sammie Graham and Viola Myers. Graham scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks, while Myers scored 13 points along with four blocks. It was the first time this season that Graham posted two or more blocks. Natalie Tucker was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six assists and two steals.
Spackenkill has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Saugerties, they pushed their record up to 10-6 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Spackenkill will head out on the road to square off against Ellenville at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Spackenkill focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Tuesday. As for Saugerties, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Wallkill at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Wallkill will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something Saugerties surely won't give up without a fight.
